The prospect of a disaster hitting Earth sounds horrifying.  But when it’s put onto the screen, the effects can be magnificent.  Films featuring disasters from the natural to the supernatural seem to be all the rage this year. And while some of them may have flopped badly at the box office (*cough* Pompeii), we’re sure that these disaster films will be worth the watch.

Into the Storm

How terrifying would it be to have your life changed in a single day? In the upcoming Into the Storm, this is exactly what happens to the people living in a town that is ravaged by an onslaught of tornadoes.

Directed by Steven Quale, the film follows a group of high school students who document the events and aftermath of a series of deadly cyclones. Told through the eyes and lenses of storm chasers, this film will send viewers directly into a scary and thrilling ride as they experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.

Into the Storm comes out August 8, 2014.

Godzilla

Yes, it’s true that that the world doesn’t need another Godzilla remake. But when Bryan Cranston is involved, how can you REALLY say “no”?

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Godzilla takes a new look at the world’s most famous monster as it is put against evil creatures- who supported by humanity’s arrogance – threaten humankind’s very existence.

Also starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sally Hawkins, the film currently holds a 72% “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Obviously enough, the effects in the film are absolutely stunning. But judging from what we can see from the trailer, Bryan Cranston is fierce as f**k and the movie is worth watching just for him.

Godzilla is out in theatres now!

Interstellar

Not much is known about Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, but according to the film’s synopsis on IMDB, this science-fiction film is about “A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.” It also includes an all-star cast of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine and Jessica Chastain.

But while we can’t be sure about the film’s exact plot, here’s what we do know. Mackenzie Foy (also known as Renesme in Breaking Dawn Pt. 2) will play the younger version of Jessica Chastain’s character. McConaughey’s character is also revealed to be a well-educated man who is recruited by Michael Caine’s character for an interstellar space voyage.

Whatever that may mean, at least one thing’s for sure. The film’s trailer is one of the most gorgeous things I’ve ever seen this year.

I guess we’ll all just have to wait until it comes out in theatres.

Interstellar releases November 7, 2014.
